A message from Meg at Waihui Gardens
This year the tool time chick has had to pull in the big guns to get some serious garden renovations done. Thirty years of rampant ivy, four 60-year-old trees, and numerous blackberries have been dragged out by the farmer and his trusty digger. Much cursing and swearing as chain saws hit nails and the remains of two small boys attempts at tree houses – we forgive them now that they are in their late 20’s – but some labour to help clean up would have been appreciated. Alas, as they pursue excitement in Canada – the farmer and I battle on – both with our chainsaws, sprayers, loppers and anything that comes to hand.
We are nearly there, 14 farm trailer loads later and still going! Already I am planning dahlia beds – and new area for the famous orange chairs – more Buxus planting and maybe even a couple of climbing roses to replace Sanders White and Albertine that are alas no more. Looking forward to getting that mapped out, and the pea straw down – after the roses get pruned and the last of the ranunculi get in the ground. Here’s hoping for some nice sunny winter days to get these jobs done. 😊
