The Geens
19 Coleridge Street, Hanmer Springs
Garden for high-flyers
Hosts: Dorothy & John Geen
Address: 19 Coleridge Street, Hanmer Springs
Our garden was created in 2006 and is now showing its maturity. Set against the backdrop of the Hanmer Range, the garden brings together a mix of formal and informal design ideas, planted with a mixture of exotic, native, flowering and foliage plants to give year-round colour and texture layered to give depth to the garden and to incorporate the amazing view. All this is complemented with the use of pots, tubs and garden art interspersed throughout the garden providing added appeal for visitors and birds alike!
Much thought was given to varieties of trees and shrubs that offer both habitat and a food source for the birds which live around here, with korimako (bellbird), fantail, tui and kereru (wood pigeon) all regular visitors along with all the exotic bird species, Last year we had korimako nesting in the garden and tui in the trees behind us.
Each year we have made a few changes as some plants outgrow their usefulness, or we have found one’s we prefer, so those of you who have been before will see some changes. We hope you can go home with some new ideas for your own piece of paradise. Enjoy!
We will also be having the Christmas Grotto again this year and the Art Exhibition from EarthSea Gallery and this year the Artist will also be here to meet the public.
